Game ReviewAre you resourceful enough to survive a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies and hostile survivors? Well, don't just think about it – try your hand at the whole survival business in this brilliant game, Apocalypse Rising!
The game will first dump you in a lobby of sorts where you can choose the map/world and server you'll want to try to survive in. There are quite a lot of servers for the more popular maps like Reborn, Reimagined and even Amend, but surprisingly, there's only 1 server for the Hardcore world. You'll also be able to see how many active players there are per server, so you can opt for a less populated server or a more populated one.
Among the first things you'll notice about Apocalypse Rising is its fantastic musical scores. In fact, the incredibly inspirational lobby music sounds like something you'd hear at the end of a particularly good movie where the hero has prevailed against a supposedly insurmountable challenge. It's that good!
Of course, being a zombie survival game, Apocalypse Rising has an entertaining gameplay as well. Similar to most survival games, exploration plays a huge role in Apocalypse Rising. You'll be spending most of your time wandering from settlement to settlement while searching for useful items like canned food and drinks, weapons and ammo.
Food and drinks are important since you can actually die of thirst or hunger in this game, but you'll also need to avoid carrying too much foodstuff around because you have very limited inventory space, at least prior to finding a backpack that's big enough. Even with a larger bag and more space, you'll find that inventory management is a pretty critical aspect of the game, and that there will be times when you'll need to dump some important items for something else that's even more vital to your survival.
For weapons, Apocalypse Rising offers a nice range of weapons for you to find and use on either the undead or on other hostile players you've come across. You can equip quite a lot of melee weapons, as long as you have some space on your quick tool bar, but you can only equip 2 guns (a primary and a secondary weapon) at any time. You'll also start the game with a handgun and some free ammo in your inventory, so at least you'll be able to defend yourself on the get-go. Unless you play the Hardcore mode, most of these resources are rather easy to find as well – you just need to take the effort to go out and look for them.
Aside from food, drinks, weapons and ammo, you'll sometimes come across helpful items like better torchlights, glow sticks, maps, watches and more. These tools aren't exactly weapons-material, but they can help you navigate the world better and keep track of the day and night cycle in the game. You may also spot some car parts from time to time. These items can be collected and then used to repair any damaged vehicles you may find. Once repaired, you'll have a faster and safer way to travel in Apocalypse Rising.
You may even find some wooden planks or blocks that you can use to set up defenses for a building that you've decided to dub as your "home base". However, these materials are pretty rare in the game and honestly, having a home base if you're playing alone isn't exactly feasible since you won't be able to defend it from other players while you're out scavenging.
Are you finding it hard to survive in this game? If that's the case, you may want to buy extra Spawn Packs with some Robux. Depending on what you need, you can buy the Extra Provisions pack, the Advanced Navigation pack or even a personal radio. If spending Robux is not an option for you, well, here's a survival tip you might find helpful – most players in this game will actively hunt you down once they see you. So, if you spot a player first, be sure to be the first to pull the trigger... or at least give the player a wide berth.
In a nutshell, Apocalypse Rising is a surprisingly fun survival game that's simple to pick up and play. The game can be played solo, but it seems to be a lot more fun when played with a group of friends since you'll actually be able to maintain a base of operations and start hording useful stuff.
